People who aim at nothing usually hit it. I’ll repeat that. People who aim at nothing usually hit it. So ask yourself: what are you aiming at? Are you aiming High at something which stretches you? Or aiming low at something well within your comfort zone? Or are you perhaps not aiming at all?
People who aim too high experience frustration and disappointment when they can’t reach the unreasonable target that they have set for themselves. This can lead to blaming others (or self) and to anger and even depression. People don’t want to repeat the disappointment and so the appetite for risk is reduced [Calculated Risk] That disappointment can damage self-esteem.
People who aim low rarely believe enough in themselves to start a business and so they find themselves n poorly paid unchallenging roles. They can have difficulty getting out of the rut they are in and that can lead to dissatisfaction, reduced self-esteem and unhappiness over time.
People who aim at nothing usually do so because they are trapped in a negative thought cycle - I can’ do it because… and they make excuses – mostly to themselves - as to why the want to stay where they are. It is usually not that they lack ambition but that no one has challenged their thinking; and when they take the first steps who is there to encourage them to keep going.
So do three positive actions and stop doing three others
The Do’s
- Set some achievable goals that encourage you to go a bit further than usual
- Do something new that challenges you
- Hold yourself accountable to do what you said you would do within the timeframe
The Don’ts
- Don’t stop doing whatever you decided to change for at least 28 days
- Don’t listen to the little negative voice in your head
- Stop hanging around with people who hold you back from being the best you that you can be.
Aim just out of reach and when you reach that goal…… Push on Aim Higher oh and get a buddy who will support you. And be someone’s support buddy, it’ll change you.
